Tree on Fence at Freedom Park, Lagos – Solasy

The Omar Gardens blog was mostly set up to offer tips on how everyone could take better care of our green friends (plants) but that’s not all we’re here for. When we see people doing great things in our lane we must sprinkle compliments and offer uplifting words. Compliments and words of encouragement are like seeds, when they fall on fertile ground, they grow into something greater.

The Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) is doing something awesome. In their quest to make Lagos a greener and more liveable city they plan to plant 10 million new trees in the state by 2020. The plan’s awesome. They’re partnering with 25 private sector companies with the aim of getting each company to plant at least 100,000 trees each.

We’re no stranger to great ideas, but the proof is in the follow through and LASPARK is following through. They’ve already partnered with Gokada, the new motorcycle hailing service that’s taking Lagos by storm. Gokada’s committed to planting 10,000 trees this year. Yes, you heard right, 10,000 trees. It is no small number, so we take our hats off and say “Well Done!” But that’s not all we’re going to do with our hats. We’re also going to throw our hats in the ring and jump on the bandwagon. It is commonly said that charity begins at home so we’d like to do the same starting in Lekki phase 1 – the site of our headquarters. Let’s get the ball rolling and build momentum.

In as much as Omar Gardens is a business, our dream has always been to make the world a greener place. We’re ready, open and willing to collaborate. We know who to speak to and we know who to call. We’re speaking the same language.
