At a time when the news is full of stories about the Amazon burning, and one hurricane or the other blowing, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by climate change. After all, even if we stopped driving, flying, or even cooking, we couldn’t stop everyone in the world from business as usual – burning fossil fuels as they do. For many of us, Climate Change is a big problem with no small solutions, so while we wait for global leaders to sign treaties we assume that local leaders will make laws that offer solutions.

Climate Change has become such a large problem that it’s created its own mental illness – climate anxiety. Even Prince Harry says that sometimes he’s so overwhelmed about the problem that he struggles to get out of bed in the morning.

If we do not seize the problem by its horns and take responsibility for it, we could share a similar fate as the prince; lying in bed moaning about the planet’s impending doom.

At Omar Gardens, we’ve decided to do our bit to tackle the problem.

A little while ago, we reached out to the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), to see how we could help plant at least 10,000 trees in Lagos. They loved the idea. We’ve been given the go ahead and we plan to begin from Lekki Phase 1 – the site of our headquarters. We’ll be planting Palm trees. Their shallow roots are perfect for a city as congested as Lagos is. And for the first time ever, we’re inviting all climate warriors to join us as we lead the fight against global warming in Lagos.

If you’d like to grab a shovel, and help make Lagos a greener, cooler place, CLICK HERE to fill out the form, and we’ll let you know when it’s time.
